Insufficient pay and bad food

Susan Linderkamp is the only female ITF inspector in Germany. From her office based in Bremen, she looks after better living and working conditions on board of ships in seven ports in Northern Germany. Particularly now, in times of continuous economic crisis, she has a lot to do.

20 unionists from around the world demonstrated against the Brazilian multicorporate mine company Vale this weekend in Brunsbüttel / Germany. They accuse the global corporation of using cheap contract workers and reducing company pensions as well as allowances.

ITF and IBF reach compromise

During the ITF and IBF’s final round of negotiating a collective agreement on September 29th & 30th, 2009 in Manila, an agreement in principle was attained. Due to the international economic crisis, the employers had demanded a ten per cent wage cut. The ITF called for guaranteed employment of ratings from developed economy countries on IBF ships.
